LDS Church History Library Conservation Lab – Insider’s Visit – 1st Edition King James Version of the Bible, Published in 1611, 400th Year Anniversary and a 1st Edition Book of Mormon
A 1st Edition King James Version of the Bible, published in 1611 (400th Year Anniversary!) and a 1st Edition Book of Mormon, published in 1830 are on the work table at the LDS Church History Library Conservation Laboratory in Salt Lake City. This insider’s visit allows you to see the conservation efforts on these very rare sacred works.
The title page to the 1611 first edition of the Authorized Version Bible by Cornelius Boel shows the Apostles Peter and Paul seated centrally above the central text, which is flanked by Moses andAaron. In the four corners sitMatthew, Mark, Luke and John, authors of the four gospels, with their symbolic animals. The rest of the Apostles stand around Peter and Paul. At the very top is the Tetragrammaton “יהוה”.
Also in the lab are two first editions of the Book of Mormon published in 1830. Originally 5,000 copies were printed.
